Turkmenistan Conducts TAPI Road Show
On September 9 – 20 Turkmenistan, with support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and other countries interested in the TAPI pipeline (Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan – India), is holding a world road show for the project, according to an official Turkmen source. The road show will be held in Singapore, New York, and London, the major business and financial centers of South-East Asia, the US, and Europe. During the presentation celebrating the kick-off of the road show, Turkmenistan presented a report prepared jointly with the Asian Development Bank on the country’s energy potential, the state concern “Turkmengaz”, TAPI technical features and commercial aspects of agreements and contracts to be signed within the project implementation.

Iran Claims it Signed Agreement on Turkmen Gas Transit
Iran claimed it signed an agreement on gas transit from Turkmenistan to Turkey and further to Europe through Turkish territories. The National Iranian Gas Company's managing director Javad Owji told the Iranian news agency Mehr that Iran and Turkey recently agreed on transiting Iranian gas to Europe. According to the agreement, Iran will export gas to Europe via Turkey, and will transit the same amount of Turkmen gas to Turkey, instead. However, neither Turkmenistan, not Turkey nor the European Union have officially confirmed that such an agreement was signed.

Ashgabat Hosted 55 Session of CIS Economic Council
Participants of the 55 the session of the CIS Economic Council received detailed analytical information about the implementation of the CIS Concept for cooperation in the energy sector, says the report of the CIS Executive Committee. They discussed the security market of the countries of the Commonwealth and reviewed Russia’s trade policy. They paid particular attention to budget and finance issues and approved priority measures for expansion of humanitarian cooperation between the CIS countries for the period 2013 – 2014, as well as the Concept for creating the CIS bank for patents and innovations.

Turkmenistan intends to actively develop partnerships within CIS
“Partnership within the CIS meets the priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign policy strategy,” said President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov at a meeting with Chairman of the Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the International Conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan" and the 55th meeting of the CIS Economic Council held in Turkmenistan as part of its presidency in the CIS in 2012.

On September 13, the International conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan” opened in Ashgabat. Representatives of oil and gas ministries, agencies and major companies from CIS countries participated in the conference and discussed issues relating to operations at oil and gas fields, prospecting and exploration of mineral resources to speed up production of hydrocarbons, increase processing of oil and gas, and develop the oil and gas and chemical industries in Turkmenistan.

President Berdymukhamedov Visited Latvia
On September 11 – 12, President Berdymukhamedov visited Latvia and met with the Latvian President, Andris Berzins, who said that "Latvia attaches great importance to this visit to facilitate the development of bilateral relations." The two leaders identified the industrial sector and infrastructure modernization as promising areas of partnership. Latvian President also named the textile industry and agriculture as the areas of mutual interest.

Turkmenistan, Russia discuss prospects for cooperation
On September 15, Turkmen government reported that President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Russian Prime-Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, spoke on the phone and discussed the current state and perspectives of relations between their respective countries. The phone call was initiated by Turkmenistan. Berdymukhamedov and Medvedev noted “the need for a faster implementation of bilateral arrangements, reached at the highest and government level to expand Turkmen-Russian cooperation."

OSCE Centre Trains Naval and Maritime Border Officers in Turkmenistan
On September 14, an OSCE-organized training course on maritime border patrolling and surveillance methods finished its work in the Caspian coast town of Turkmenbashi in Turkmenistan. The five-day course brought together 20 participants, including naval officers of the Defence Ministry, maritime border officers of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan, and officials from the Turkmenbashi international seaport.

Swiss TV Channel “SRF” shoots documentary about Turkmenistan
Journalists of the Swiss National Public Television “SRF” are shooting a documentary about Turkmenistan. The film will be part of the TV series titled "New Silk Road." The film will acquaint Swiss viewers with the history and cultural heritage of the Turkmen people and current developments in Turkmenistan. It will also show the glorious Akhal-Teke horses and natural landscapes. Special emphasis will be placed on the unique historical and architectural monuments of Turkmenistan included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and others.

CIS member countries’ consumer goods fair to open in Ashgabat
On September 20 – October 10 Turkmenistan will host an international fair of consumer goods produced by CIS member countries. The goal of the event is to expand trade and economic relations between the CIS countries and fully implement the potential of mutually beneficial partnership. Turkmenistan hosts this forum as the country presiding over the CIS in 2012.

Turkmenistan will host the VII Forum of Creative and Scientific Intelligentsia of the CIS member-states on October 15-16, as it chairs the Commonwealth this year. This was stated at a meeting between Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and chairman of the Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev in Ashgabat.
