Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry Criticized Russian Mass Media
Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry issued a press release saying that a number of Russian mass media outlets, including the Regnum news agency, have been spreading false information about Turkmenistan and the events taking place in the country. The Foreign Ministry says that Regnum, in referring to surveys on various issues in CIS countries, makes an unacceptable claim that the lack of data from Turkmenistan is a result of a "low-level of media freedom" in the country. Turkmenistan.ru writes that “The Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan believes that spreading such biased information is unacceptable. Statements by the above-mentioned persons, who also made politicized and unfriendly comments in relation to Turkmenistan in their reports, cause bewilderment.”

Turkmen - Russian talks on consular-visa issues held in Ashgabat

President of Turkmenistan Receives Senior Official of Communist Party of China
President Berdymukhamedov received Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politboro of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Deputy Secretary of the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee of the CPC Central Committee, who arrived in Ashgabat as the head of a high-level delegation. The parties called for expansion of this cooperation in a number of promising areas, primarily in energy, construction, finance, transport, communications, textile, and chemical industries. They also discussed relations in the humanitarian sector, particularly in science, education, and culture, as well as establishing close contacts between the political parties of the two countries - the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan and the Communist Party of China.

Uzbekistan's President Arrives in Turkmenistan on Official Visit
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov arrived in Ashgabat on October 1 for a two day official visit at the invitation of President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. The leaders of the two countries are expected to discuss trade, economic, and regional cooperation, as well as issues in international relations. The leaders are expected to sign a number of documents envisaging further expansion of bilateral cooperation in political, diplomatic, economic, trade, cultural, and humanitarian sectors.

Construction of Trans Caspian Pipeline in Interests of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan: EU
The EU believes that it is in the interest of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan to develop the Trans Caspian Pipeline, Head of the EU Office in Baku, Roland Kobia told journalists. ”We had a last round of ministerial meetings in Ashgabat in early September with Commissioner Günther Oettinger. So we are continuing our discussions," Kobia said, stressing that it is a complex initiative, but that the EU does not believe that the unsettled status of the Caspian Sea is an obstacle.

Turkmenistan Ready to Meet Asia’s Growing Demand for Gas: President
At a recent governmental meeting, President Berdymukhamedov said that the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline will meet the rapidly growing needs of the Asian energy market. "Laying this transnational gas pipeline will allow to meet the rapidly growing needs of the Asian energy market through the export of Turkmen natural gas, as well as address a number of important social and humanitarian issues, including those related to the creation of new jobs, formation of the appropriate infrastructure along the gas pipeline," he said.

Ashgabat, Bern Prepare for High Level Negotiations
Ashgabat and Bern are currently preparing for official visit of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov to Switzerland this autumn, an official Turkmen source reported on October 27. This issue was discussed during the recent meeting of the representatives of the two respective Foreign Ministries in Bern. The parties also discussed the state and prospects of bilateral relations.

Germany Considers Turkmenistan an Important Diversification Source of Energy Supplies to Europe
Participants of the Turkmen-German ministerial consultations in Berlin stressed Turkmenistan's important role in ensuring regional security, particularly in the context of diversification of energy supplies to Europe. The Berlin consultations included the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan and the Commissioner for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asian Affairs of Germany. The Turkmen delegation was also received by the Office of the Federal Chancellor of Germany.

CIS Agricultural Industry to be Discussed in Ashgabat
A meeting of the Intergovernmental Council on agricultural issues will be held in Ashgabat on October 12, an official Turkmen source reported. The event will be held by the CIS executive committee with the assistance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Turkmen MFA. An international academic and practical conference on the development of food security in the CIS will be held prior to the meeting.

Turkmen Deputy PM to Attend Summit of CIS Governments Heads in Yalta
Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers Annamuhammet Gochyev will attend the next meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Governments in Yalta, an official Turkmen source said on September 27. Yalta will host the third investment forum 'Yalta business meetings' for CIS member states on September 28-29.

Turkmenistan Draws UN's Attention to World Energy Security
At the 67th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov spoke about world energy security, the UN News Centre reported. During the session the foreign minister promoted the development of international legal instruments to ensure the stable functioning of the energy supply system, taking into account the interests of producers, transit countries, and consumers of hydrocarbon resources as part of President Berdymukhamedov’s initiative.

Ashgabat Studies Best Practices for Organizing Sporting Events
Ashgabat hosted the three-day seminar “International Best Practices in Organizing Large-Scale Sporting Events,” organized by the National Institute for Sport and Tourism of Turkmenistan in conjunction with the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Representatives of the Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Finance, and other ministries and departments of Turkmenistan participated in the seminar. International experts included the Deputy Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee of the Asian Games in Incheon, Kim Jae Joong (Republic of Korea), the manager for organization of the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014, Anton Bakeev (Russia), and others.
