Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan Held Talks on Energy Cooperation
On October 4, Ashgabat hosted the third meeting of the Turkmenistan – Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Yagub Eyubov, arrived to the Turkmen capital to participate in the event and meet with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. Deputy Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers in charge of science, education, healthcare, sports, tourism, and the social sector, Sapardurdy Toiliev, headed the Intergovernmental Commission from the Turkmen side. During the talks, Azerbaijan offered to supply equipment for Turkmenistan’s oil and gas industry and oil and chemicals sector, as well as construction materials, agricultural equipment, food and consumer goods. Turkmenistan offered a number of goods and services which will significantly enhance mutual trade turnover.

Berdymukhamedov Visited Paris en Route to Switzerland
On October 7, President Berdymukhamedov visited France, where he was a guest of honor of the prestigious Arc de Triomphe horseraces. Berdimuhamedov’s visit to Paris included meetings with French government officials including Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Stephen Lefol; Minister of Budget Jerome Cahuzac; Senator and Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group "France - Central Asia" Andre Dyule. He also met with a member of Qatar’s ruling family of Al-Thani and CEOs of major French companies such as Bouygues, Vinci Grand live, Total, France Galop, Cifal, and others.

Turkmenistan, Switzerland Discuss Intensifying Cooperation
On October 8, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Swiss President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf met in Bern, Switzerland, to discuss potential cooperation. It was Berdymukhamedov’s first official visit to Switzerland. Following the meeting, the Swiss President stated that the country is ready to develop and broaden its partnership with Turkmenistan in all directions, the Turkmen government reported.

Turkmenistan, Russia Discuss Expansion of Parliamentary Ties
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov received Leonid Slutsky, the Chairman of the Russian Federation State Duma’s Committee for CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots, and Mikhail Krotov, the adviser to Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan, Alexander Blokhin, also attended the meeting to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation and the importance of closer inter-parliamentary relations. They paid particular attention to Turkmenistan’s presidency of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2012.

Russian, Turkmen Presidents Mark Strategic Nature of Partnership
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone, to note that the partnership between Turkmenistan and Russia is developing in all directions and has a strategic nature, and for Berdymukhamedov to congratulate Putin on the occasion of his birthday.

CIS food security to be discussed in Ashgabat
On October 11 Turkmenistan and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Executive Committee will hold an international scientific-practical conference on ways for improving food security in the CIS.

United Nations Population Fund Holds Seminar in Ashgabat
Ashgabat hosted a regional seminar to present the goals and objectives of the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) AccessRH project, which has created a new web portal that provides information on procurement of reproductive health commodities. The seminar, organized by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia hosted delegations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, experts from UNFPA, and specialists from Turkmenistan’s health sector.

Relations Between Turkmenistan and Portugal Constructive
In his letter to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva expressed confidence that "the close and friendly relations will continue to develop both in bilateral and multilateral formats."
