Kazakhstan Delivers Diplomatic Note to Turkmen Foreign Ministry
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry sent a diplomatic note to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry in connection with the detention of seven detained Kazakh citizens on October 19 who were alleged to have illegally crossed the Kazakh-Turkmen border, according Altai Abibullayev, a spokesman for the Kazakh Foreign Ministry. "We held a meeting with Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Berdiniyaz Myatiev and Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in connection with the detention of seven Kazakh citizens," Abibullayev said. Kazakh Diplomats Unable to Meet with Kazakh Citizens Detained in Turkmenistan
According to Kazakhstan’s Media, Turkmenistan’s authorities are not permitting Kazakh diplomats to meet with the detained Kazakh citizens. According to Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Altai Abibullaev, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry sent a diplomatic note to Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry. On October 23, representatives of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry met with Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister, Rashid Meredov. “We hope this case will be resolved as soon as possible in the spirit of friendship and partnership between the two countries,” said Abibullaev.
UN Special Representative, Turkmenistan Discuss Situation in Afghanistan
A delegation headed by Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan Ján Kubiš met with staff of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen state news agency (TDH) reported. They discussed steps for strengthening security and promoting the sustainable development of Afghanistan according to TDH.
Kazakhstan Discusses Caspian Disputed Territories with Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan
Kazakhstan is trying to resolve disagreement dispute with Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan regarding territories on the Caspian Sea, reports Tengrinews.kz citing the Head of Kazakhstan Agency for Managing Land Resources, Kadirkhan Otarov. "We have completed field works with Turkmenistan, but there are some areas which require agreement of all three states – Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan, in particular, when the territory concerned is located at the cross of the borders of all three states, total area of which amounts to 28 kilometers. This area is located on the Caspian Sea shore,” said Otarov, answering the questions of Kazakh parliamentarians about the procedure for demarcation and delimitation of borders.
CIS Summit to Take Place in Ashgabat on 5 December
President Berdymukhamedov and the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, Executive Secretary, Sergei Lebedev, decided to postpone the summit of the CIS Heads of State, initially scheduled for early November in Ashgabat, to December 5 this year. On 4 December, Ashgabat will host a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers.
President: Israel to Develop Relations with Turkmenistan
In a letter addressed to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the country's independence, Israeli President, Shimon Peres, said that relations between the countries will invariably strengthen and develop.”This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries and opening of a permanent diplomatic mission of Israel in Ashgabat and I am confident that the relationship will further invariably strengthen and develop,” Peres wrote. Turkmenistan Expands Cooperation with Russian Regions
On November 2, a delegation of Turkmen parliamentarians headed by the Speaker of the Parliament, Akja Nurberdieva, arrived in Kazan to take part in the international conference dedicated to 20 years of Tatarstan’s Constitution. The meeting of Turkmenistan’s and Tatarstan’s parliamentarians followed up on President Berdymukhamedov’s visit to this region this past May, which led to an increase in Turkmen cooperation with Tatarstan-based companies including KAMAZ, Tatneft, Kasan helicopter factory, TANEKO, and others.
Close economic contacts with Tatarstan, St.Petersburg, Astrakhan, and Sverdlovsk regions, and other territories of the Russian Federation have led to increased trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia, which reached 4.3 billion USD in 2011.
