European Commission: EU Wants to be Ensured in Scalability of Pipeline to Transport Caspian Gas
The European Union (EU) wants assurances that the pipeline transporting Caspian gas to Europe will be scalable, a source in the Ministry of Energy of the European Commission told the Trend news agency. If South Gas Corridor can transport only 10 million cubic meters of gas per year in the long-term, it is simply not worth the effort, said Gunther Oettinger at a gas forum in Frankfurt. According to him, the EU will need about 600 million cubic meters of gas per year. He said that Europe is expecting to receive gas from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, which can be transported through the Trans-Caspian pipeline that is still being negotiate.
