President of Turkmenistan Severely Reprimands Deputy Prime Minister for Oil and Gas Sector
President Berdymukhamedov severely reprimanded the Vice Premier in charge of the oil and gas sector and the Head of the State Agency for Management and Use of Hydrocarbon Resources under the President of Turkmenistan, Yagshigeldi Kakayev, for “improper performance of duties, disregard for labor discipline, and shortcomings in his work.”

Berdymukhamedov Unhappy with Parliament
On January 14, during a meeting with MPs President Berdymukhamedov noted that Mejlis (Parliament) does not duly supervise the implementation of the laws it adopts. “Deputies adopt laws and then forget about them completely,” – said the President, adding that often the laws are “of poor quality.” Berdymukhamedov said that Mejis needs reform and instructed Chairperson Akja Nurberdieva, to file suggestions on creating additional parliamentary committees, reported State News Agency (TDH).

Turkmen President Instructs Parliament to Review Gravity of Certain Acts Regarded as Crimes
President Berdymukhamedov called on the Mejlis (parliament) to certain acts regarded as crimes and reduce the punishments for committing them, reported Turkmenistan’s National TV. Berdymukhamedov stressed that the state policy in the area of criminal law aims to exclude acts that do not cause severe damage to society from the criminal code. These acts should be regarded as administrative violations and lead to administrative liability.
