New Housing Code Reinstates Privatization Rights
Turkmenistan’s new Housing Code, which came into force on March 14 on the day of its publication in local media, returned the right to privatize housing to Turkmen citizens. “The leaseholder of housing premises belonging to the state housing fund, with agreement of other adult residents of the housing premises, has the right to privatize these premises in accordance with the conditions and the procedure established by the law of Turkmenistan,” says part 1 of Article 28 of the new code. Turkmenistan’s citizens were deprived of their right to privatize houses and apartments under the rule of the first president of the country, Saparmurat Niyazov.

Berdymukhamedov Appointed New Director of State TV and Radio Company
President Berdymukhamedov removed Begench Abaev from his position of the Director of the Radio channel Yashlik and appointed him director of State TV and Radio Channel Altyn Asyr – Turkmenistan. The former head of Altyn Asyr, Maxat Altaev, left his job after promoted promotion to the position of the Chairman of Turkmenistan’s State Committee for Television, Radio and Cinematography in January of 2013.
