Turkmen Parliament Adopts Laws
The Turkmen Parliament reviewed a number of new draft laws and legal documents at its nineteenth session, including the draft laws On Education; On ensuring the preservation of documentary heritage of the President of Turkmenistan, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan; On approval and enactment of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan; On the trunk pipeline transport; On national security of Turkmenistan; On the state border of Turkmenistan, On the border guards of Turkmenistan; On amendments to the Tax Code of Turkmenistan; On amendments and additions to the law On protection and promotion of breastfeeding and requirements for infant food products; on amendments to the law On licensing of certain types of activities; on amendments and additions to the law On migration and invalidation of certain legislative acts of Turkmenistan, on amendments to the law On the use and protection of the symbolism of red crescent and red cross. At the end of the nineteenth session members of Parliament unanimously approved and passed all of these draft laws.

President Made Orders to Eat Healthy
On May 3, at the meeting of Turkmenistan's Cabinet of Ministers, President Berdymukhamedov signed a decree approving the National Program for Healthy Nutrition of Turkmen Population for the period of 2013 – 2017. He also instructed Turkmenistan's Health Minister, Kurban Mamed Lliasov, to keep implementation of the program under strict control, according to Turkmenistan's State Information Agency (TDH). In his earlier speeches, President Berdymukhamedov said: “I can tell you directly that Turkmen people will live on average until 85 or longer.” According to the latest WHO data published in April 2011, life expectancy in Turkmenistan is 65.3 for men and 71.3 for women, which gives Turkmenistan a World Life Expectancy ranking of 118 out of 190.

Head of Chemical Factory Fired
President Berdymukhamedov fired Charyoar Tushiev, the Director of the Tejenkarbamid chemical factory, a division of Turkmenistan's State Chemical Concern, for failure to perform his official duties.

Special Sadaka Dinner Held in Ashgabat for President's Health
The Turkmen National Horse Association and the Interior Ministry organized a Sadaka, a special religious dinner, in honor of the Turkmen President and his health. In a televised report of the dinner shown on national channels, the organizers toasted the President’s health and wished him well before putting meat in the cooking pans. Turkmenistan’s media reported nothing about Berdymukhamedov’s fall from the horse.

Greek Police Arrested Russian Citizen at Request of Turkmen Authorities
Greek police reported that on May 2 on Rhodes Island they arrested a Russian citizen who was announced in international search at Turkmenistan’s request. Turkmen authorities accuse the 62 year man of taking bribes from January 9, 2011, to September 17, 2012. The police did not provide the name of the arrested man.
