World Bank to Help Turkmenistan to Implement Long-term Socioeconomic Development Program
The World Bank's Board of Executive Directors today discussed an interim strategy for Turkmenistan, which will serve as a platform for cooperation for the World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC) with Turkmenistan to support reforms in the country from 2013 through 2015, IFC said.

Production Wells Drilled at Largest Turkmenistan Gas Field
Some 22 production wells have been drilled at the Galkynish field, which is the second largest gas field in the world, Turkmenistan's Oil and Gas and Mineral Resources Ministry reported. Most of these wells have undergone testing and have given a large inflow of natural gas.
By the end of the year all drilled wells will have been tested and a strong flow of gas will be sent to the preliminary gas processing points and then to the gas purification plants from the underground reserves, the report said.

Turkmenistan Supplying over Half of Chinese Gas Imports
Turkmenistan is now, by a large margin, China’s largest foreign supplier of natural gas: over 21.3 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 2012, or 51.4 percent of Chinese imports, according to data published by the BP Statistical Review of World Energy. That amounts to three times more than what Qatar supplies China And the figure is set to skyrocket with the opening of the giant Galkynysh field this autumn, which will feed the 1,833-kilometer Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China pipeline. When China opened a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan in 2009, Ashgabat got what it had long wanted: independence from Russia, with an alternative market for its abundant natural gas reserves.

Turkmenistan’s GDP increases by almost 10%since early 2013
According to preliminary data, Turkmenistan's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth was estimated at 109.7%for the first seven months of 2013, the Turkmen Ministry of Economy and Development reported. As of January-July 2012, Turkmenistan's GDP growth was 111%. Production growth hit 112.8%for the first seven months of 2013 compared to the same period of last year.

Large Construction Contracts to Go to Turkmen Private Companies, Not to Turkish
For the first time the Turkmen Government will give half a billion dollars worth of contracts to Turkmen private construction companies, whereas before such expensive contracts were usually concluded with Turkish firms. Normally Turkmen private construction companies are given small jobs in remote rural areas.

Turkmenistan Plans to Supply Electric Energy to Turkey Through Iran
Turkmenistan intends to supply electric energy to Turkey via Iran, reported Iranian newspaper Donya-e-eqtesad News. Turkmenistan is to become a major supplier of electric energy in the region by 2020 and has signed a contract with a Turkish private company to export electric energy to Ankara.

Turkmenistan Invests $2 billion in Development of Tourism in Caspian Region
"The cost of the objects built (on the Caspian Coast) and those under construction has exceeded $2 billion," said President Berdymukhamedov, adding that several hotels and multi-recreational centers meeting the highest standards in hospitality service will be built and commissioned by the year's end in Avaza.
The Head of State also noted that among the new objects on the new seaside resort on the coast of the Caspian Sea, construction of which started this year, there are four five-star hotels with 300-350 beds each, a water park and amusement park, multi-level parking, and apartment complexes.

Turkmenistan, Turkey Stand for Intensifying Energy Cooperation
During his visit to Iran, President Berdymukhamedov met with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to discuss prospects for further cooperation. "Significant potential for intensification of a mutually beneficial partnership across the whole spectrum, including the trade, economic and energy spheres along with the transport and communications sectors was stressed," the Turkmen government said.

Japanese and Turkish Companies to Build Chemical Factory in Turkmenistan
The State concern Turkmenkhimia is to sign a contract with a consortium including Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Japan) and RönesansTürkmenInşaatSanayiveTicaretA.Ş. (Turkey), to design and construct a chemical factory to produce sulfuric acid with the capacity of 500 thousand tons per year.
