Turkmen President to Visit Japan
On September 11 – 13, Turkmenisan’s President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov will pay an official visit to Japan, where he is expected to meet with Emperor of Japan Akihito and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The President of Turkmenistan is also scheduled to participate in a business forum in Tokyo to discuss Turkmen-Japanese economic cooperation.

Heads of the diplomatic missions of the OSCE member-states and partners accredited in Turkmenistan held a meeting at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan, according to the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry. At the meeting, participants discussed preparations for the international conference “Energy security and sustainable development – prospects of the OSCE” scheduled for October 17-18, 2013, in Ashgabat.

U.S. Embassy Assists Accounting Reforms in Turkmenistan
On August 12, a month-long course on International Financial Reporting Standards for extractive industries commenced at the Turkmengaz State Company’s Research Institute of Oil and Gas. The course, sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and ExxonMobil, is tailored to accountants and financial experts from Turkmenistan’s oil and gas industry and seeks to augment the Government of Turkmenistan-initiated reform of the national accounting system.
