A man of controversy as much as change, former Georgian President and Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze has died at the age of 86, according to a spokesperson, Reuters reported. The exact cause of death has not yet been disclosed. In 2011, Shevardnadze, then living in retirement in Tbilisi, spoke with EurasiaNet.org about the events that led to the Soviet empire’s collapse and what the future might hold for the post-Soviet world.
