Aktau, 11 September: It is expected that a decision on the construction of a railway linking Kazakhstan with Turkmenistan and Iran will be adopted during Kazakh President [Nursultan] Nazarbayev’s official visit to Asgabat.

"Today I will pay a visit to Turkmenistan where we will agree on the construction of a railway through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to Iran with access to the Persian Gulf. This will bring us closer to our Muslim brothers," he said at a ceremony to lay the first stone in the foundation of a new city "Aktau-City" today in Aktau (administrative centre of Mangistau Region, western Kazakhstan).
