A bomb was detonated on February 1 at an entrance to the US embassy to Ankara, killing a security guard and a suspected suicide-bomber, Turkish media report. Injuries have been reported, but not specified. US embassy personnel reportedly have been taken to a safe-room within the embassy, Hürriyet Daily News [2] reported, citing a reporter interview with the Turkish TV station NTV. A photo posted on Today's Zaman [3] showed damaged walls and a door at what appeared to be the security station where the blast allegedly took place; other building damage has not been detailed.
Police have not yet indicated a motive or the identity of the suspected assailant.
A brief notice on the US embassy's website [4] expressed thanks for "expressions of solidarity and outrage over the incident," and stated that additional information will be released "when available."
