RA COURT OF CASSATION DECLINED THE PROTEST OF "A1+" FOUNDER
On June 14, at the very first session, the Chamber of Civil and Commercial
Cases of the RA Court of Cassation declined the suit of the founder of "A1+"
TV company, "Meltex" LLC. The plaintiff challenged the decision of the RA
Commercial Court at the court of supreme jurisdiction. As it has been
reported, on April 25 the Commercial Court did not secure the suit of
"Meltex" versus the National Commission on Television and Radio, demanding
to cancel the decisions of the Commission on holding TV and radio broadcast
licensing competitions (see details in YPC Weekly Newsletter, April 27 - May
3, 2002).
MANUAL ON INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM ISSUED
On June 11 "Journalistic Investigation: First Introduction" manual was
issued by Yerevan Press Club under "Journalist's Library" book series
(http://www.ypc.am/English/Studies/chouse.htm). The book was published with
the financial support of OSI Assistance Foundation-Armenia.
The manual is intended for practicing journalists, journalism students and
presents the history of the development of investigative journalism, the
methods for investigations applied by the prominent representatives of the
genre, ethical norms and work standards of investigative journalists.
CURRICULA COLLECTION PUBLISHED
On June 10 Yerevan Press Club and the Journalism Department of Yerevan State
University published "Curricula" collection intended for the journalism
departments of universities. The collection is issued under YPC project
"Introduction of Professional Standards into the Activities of Armenian
Media and Journalists", implemented with the assistance of OSI Assistance
Foundation-Armenia. The book includes the curricula for undergraduate and
graduate courses in such disciplines as the modern technologies and
journalism, media-related legislation, radio journalism basics, media
management, advertising in media, etc.
ANOTHER SUIT FILED WITH A DEMAND TO ANNUL THE DECISIONS OF THE NATIONAL
COMMISSION ON TELEVISION AND RADIO
Another suit has been filed with the court of primary jurisdiction of Center
and Nork-Marash communities of Yerevan, demanding to annul the decisions of
the National Commission on Television and Radio of April 2, 2002. Due to
these decisions, "A1+" and "Noyan Tapan" TV companies were not granted
broadcast licenses (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, March 30 - April 5, 2002).
Plaintiff Artak Zeynalian noted in his suit application that these decisions
have violated his civil right to freedom of speech, including the right to
seek, to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by
public authority.
As it has been reported, on May 15 a similar suit to the same court was
filed by the Chairman of the Public Council on Human Rights and Fundamental
Freedoms Ashot Bleyan (see YPC Weekly Newsletter, May 11-24, 2002).
