...AS FORMER RULING PARTY CRITICIZES IT. In a statement published in
the opposition paper "Haykakan zhamanak" on 19 June and circulated by
Groong, the former ruling Armenian Pan-National Movement (HHSh)
criticized the present government's willingness to cede Armenian
assets to Russia and warned that doing so will undermine Armenia's
independence. Finance and Economy Minister Vartan Khachatrian on 20
June rejected that argument, RFE/RL's Yerevan bureau reported.
Khachatrian pointed out that most of Armenia's debt to Russia was
accumulated during in 1992-98, when the HHSh was in power. LF
