Armenia to stick to "balanced" foreign policy - president
Text of report by Armenian news agency Arminfo
Yerevan, 22 April: Armenia's greatest achievement in foreign policy over
the last five years is that the republic has had no "headache" in this
area despite the fact that Armenia is situated in a geopolitically
complex region, Armenian President Robert Kocharyan told a meeting with
students of the Agricultural Academy.
The president believes that owing to its balanced foreign policy over
the last five years, Armenia has not been involved in conflicts in other
states. The foreign policy of the country in the next few years will
remain unchanged, the president said. Robert Kocharyan has described the
deepening of strategic relations with Russia and development of ties
with the USA and European Union as foreign policy achievements.
Asked by students about Armenia's position on the tension in
Russian-Georgian relations, Kocharyan said that his republic should
stick to neutrality in this issue. He expressed confidence that
Russian-Georgian relations will be normalized by means of negotiations.
