In an address to the Businessmen's Council, President Aliyev has warned
unnamed senior officials who currently enjoy a monopoly on the import of certain
categories of goods that they should abandon such business activities, Interfax
reported on 3 February. Aliyev further pledged that bureaucratic interference in
domestic firms will be reduced, and equal conditions created for foreign and
domestic companies engaged in business in Azerbaijan. LF
