*IDP Women Association Organizes Multicultural Peace Camps for
Children and Training Sessions for Zugdidi IDP Community on Conflict
Resolution Issues*

The Association of IDP Women was created at the
beginning of 1995 and was registered officially in 1996. The
Association works in the following spheres: psychological, medical and
social assistance for IDP women and children, counseling, small-scale
employment proj-ects, training, and education. One of the main fields
of the Association's work is peace-building activities. This year the
organization sent 37 children from conflict zones in Georgia, Armenia
and Azerbaijan to a Bulgarian Peace camp. It is the third time that
the Association, with its partners from Sukhumi and Tskhinvali,
implemented this kind of project. This year, the Open Education
Center in Bulgaria was a partner and partial donor for the project.
The Center provided training in peace issues and intercultural
communications. The UNHCR offices in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan
financed the camp. UNOMIG in Georgia and Swiss Red Cross provided
free transportation for children participating in this project. The
second multicultural camp project is currently being implemented in
Surami. 50 children from Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan will spend
one month together under the supervision of experienced teachers. The
UNDP GEORGIA office and international industrial foundation "Horizon"
are financing the project. The Association has also been implementing
a training series program for informal leaders from the IDP community.
The program was prepared last year and financed by the Berghof Center
for Constructive Conflict Management (Berlin). The project aims to
increase the capacity of IDP leaders to solve their own problems and
find peaceful alternatives for conflict resolution in Abkhazia.
Recently, the Association, together with the Georgian Committee of
HCA, conducted a training session on reconciliation and alterna-tive
conflict resolution issues for NGO leaders and informal leaders from
the IDP community in the Zugdidi region. The local partner of the
Association was Charity Center "Atinati." Two months ago, a similar
training session was conducted in the Imereti region. The local
partner for this project was the UNA. For more information, contact
the organization through e-mail:
