*NGO Association of Invalid-Warriors "Demetre Tavdadebuli" Aids
Children of Disabled and Deceased Soldiers*

On August 27, in its office the NGO Association of Invalid-Warriors
"Demetre Tavdadebuli" organized a ceremony for giving school supplies
to the children of invalid and deceased soldiers. The first graders
will start their first academic year with new school bags, notebooks,
pens, pencils etc.

*NGO Georgian Center for Yoga and Harmonious Development of Human
Beings Promotes Healthy Living*

Since 1989, the NGO Georgian Center for Yoga and Harmonious
Development of Human Beings has aimed to promote the physical, mental
and spiritual development of human beings through organizing healthy
activities for the population (including athletes), through
educational lectures and seminars, through the training of instructors
in yoga and naturopathy, and through the popularization of  healthy
eating.   The Center has published a book entitled "Yoga - Alphabet
for a Healthy Life,"  and, on August 7, in Gurjaari, together with the
NGO Informational Center Eco-XXI Century, the NGO organized a seminar
on the topic "Caucasian Yoga."  NGO Eco-XXI century issued a bulletin
about "Caucasian Yoga." For more information about the activities of

*NGO Business Law Center Organizes the Last Round of Seminars for
NGOs*

On September 11-12, with the financial support of the European
Commission, the NGO Business Law Center conducts the last round of
seminars for Georgia's NGOs on the new legislative requirements for
registration, re-registration and taxation. Those wishing to

*NGOs Invited to Participate in Seminar on Self-Government in 
Ukraine*

The Youth Center for Legal Studies and Economics of Donetsk  State
University invites NGOs  to participate in the Seminar "Local
Community as a Base of  Self-Governing."  The seminar will be held on
October 8-11, 1998 in Donetsk (Ukraine) with the financial support of
the International Renaissance Foundation. Representatives of local
self-government bodies, NGO activists, researchers, and neighborhood
group representatives from Ukraine and Eastern European countries are
eligible to apply.  Participants from Western Europe are invited too,
but will have to pay their own travel expenses. Working languages of
the seminar are: Ukrainian, English, Russian. English-Russian
translation will be provided. The application must be completed in
English, Ukrainian, or Russian, and returned to the Youth Center for
Legal Studies on or before September 10, 1998. More information is

*The Horizonti Foundation Starts NGO Development Grant Program*

With support from USAID, the Horizonti Foundation has initiated its
NGO Development Grant Program. The aim of the program is to support
the organizational development and strengthening of NGOs who want to
expand their activities in Georgia. The grant will fund one or more of
the following: office rent, development of the existing technical base
of the office, staff salaries, and development of regional offices.
The total budget of the project should not exceed 8000 USD. All legal
bodies that are active in Georgia, have NGO status, and comply with
the following requirements are eligible to participate in the Program:
 · Organization should have at least two years of working 
experience · Organization should have implemented at least three
projects, should have one on-going project and one project submitted
for competition in one of the funds · Organization should have basic
technical equipment · Organization should have permanent staff 

Interested organizations should submit their projects to the Horizonti

*The Horizonti Foundation Announces Job Openings for the Positions of
Secretary, Assistant, and Trainer*

The Horizonti Foundation announces a job opening for a Secretary
position. 

Requirements: 
· Excellent Georgian, Russian, and English language skills (both
written and oral) 
· Experience with computer programs (Word, Excel, E-mail, Internet) ·
Working experience at an international organization is desirable

NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR NGOs

*AAUW Educational Foundation Announces International Fellowships for
Women*

International Fellowships ($16,000) are awarded for full-time study or
research in the United States to women who are not U.S. citizens or
permanent  residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study is
supported. Applicants must have earned the equivalent of a U.S.
bachelor's degree before January 15, 1999. Criteria for selection
include outstanding academic ability, professional potential, and the
importance of the field of study to changing the lives of women and
girls in the country of origin. Applicants for the International
Fellowships may simultaneously apply for post-fellowship grants to
support community action projects ($5,000-$7,000).  These projects are
to be implemented in the fellow's home country in the year immediately
following the fellowship year. Community action projects must have
direct impact on improving the lives of women and girls in the
recipient's home country. Application forms are available from August

*Audrey Mayer Mars International Fellowship In Clinical Oncology*

The purpose of the fellowships is to provide one year of advanced
training in clinical oncology at participating cancer centers in the
United States to qualified physicians and surgeons from other
countries, particularly countries where advance training is not
readily available (former Soviet Union countries are priority
countries in 1999).  Applicants must have passed Education Commission
for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), or the Test of English as a
Second Language (TOEFL). The total Fellowship Award, including stipend
and travel allowance, will not exceed $35,000. For full description of
