CHINA TO GIVE AID TO KAZAKH ARMED FORCES

ALMATY. May2 (Interfax-Kazakhstan) - The Chinese government is to
extend the Kazakh armed forces aid worth 11million yuan, in accordance
with an agreement signed during Kazakh Defense Minister Sat
Tokpakbayev's visit to China on April 24 to 28. Supplies of goods and
services are to begin as early as in 2000, the press service of the
Kazakh Defense Ministry has told Interfax-Kazakhstan.
During the visit the Kazakh defense minister told Chinese Vice
President and Deputy Head of the Central Military Council Hu Jintao,
that Kazakhstan supports Chinese efforts to strengthen peace and
security in Asia and the Pacific.
He said that Kazakhstan considers Taiwan to be an inalienable part
of Chinese territory and that Kazakhstan opposes attempts to create "two
Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan." The Taiwan issue is the internal
affairs of the People's Republic of China, he said.
Tokpakbayev also said that Kazakhstan's position on separatism
remains unchanged and that it "rejects all forms of separatism and has
banned all separatist organizations."
