Kazakh capital police get video monitoring system
Excerpt from report by the Kazakh news agency Interfax-Kazakhstan on 4th May
Astana, 4th May: The first in Kazakhstan system of electronic monitoring of
streets has been installed in Astana. An operational control centre (OCC)
has been set up to this end, the Astana police chief, Viktor Kan, told
journalists in an interview.
He said only few cities in the world had such systems.
The operational control centre carries out video monitoring of all roads,
crossroads and public places.
The OCC can watch the situation in the city on special monitors. More than
20 video cameras have been installed in the streets of the capital. Another
25 video cameras are planned to be installed by the end of the first half
of the year. Not more than 15 people are needed to operate the centre.
[Passage to end omitted: this will help fight car thefts, violations of
traffic rules and also watch the police at work; the number of traffic
policemen was cut by 52]
