Text of report by Kazakh Khabar TV on 11th May

Meanwhile, Kazakh Prime Minister Kasymzhomart Tokayev is currently visiting
[western] Mangistau Region. He has been to the Mangistau nuclear power
plant and other enterprises. Our correspondent reports from Aktau over the
telephone.

[Correspondent, over video of her reporting by phone and a map of Kazakhstan
in the background] On the first day of his working visit to Mangistau
Region Tokayev visited a number of major enterprises in the Region - the
Mangistau nuclear power plant, a chemical complex, a toothpaste factory, a
plastic goods plant and Aktau port. The prime minister promised that the
government would consider allocating 29m dollars for the nuclear power
plant to build a new water distillery unit.

The start of manufacturing mineral fertilizers at the chemical complex has
been delayed due to high railway tariffs for the supply of raw materials
from [southern] Zhambul Region. Kasymzhomart Tokayev assigned the power
[industry and trade] and transport [and communications] ministries, and the
Anti-Monopoly Committee to reconsider the tariff policy in relation to this
manufacture.

The prime minister also voiced confidence that the negotiations with the
government of Tatarstan on selling the plastic goods plant would come off.
Once in full operation, the Region's major enterprises will enable 5,500
people to be employed again, which is very important for Mangistau Region,
which ranks one of the highest in the republic in the number of unemployed.
The prime minister held a working meeting with Mangistau Region activists.
The head of government made an important statement at the meeting. Tokayev
said that during his visit to Atyrau and Mangistau Regions he had learnt of
many cases of certain ministries neglecting the needs of the Regions. The
prime minister said that unless the situation was changed, he would have to
introduce corrections into the government regulations.

Tokayev will take a helicopter flight over major deposits in Mangistau
tomorrow [12th May].
