KAZAKHSTAN URGES RUSSIA TO ACCELERATE TALKS ON MEDIAN LINE IN CASPIAN
SEA

ASTANA. May 18 (Interfax-Kazakhstan) - The Kazakh government is
interested in accelerating the talks with Moscow on drawing the median
line on the bed of the Caspian Sea, Kazakh Prime Minister Kasymzhomart
Tokayev told Russian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Yuri Merzlyakov on
Thursday.
The Kazakh side expects the talks to be crowned by the signing of
an appropriate protocol, he said.
"There is no sense" in delaying the talks, he said, noting that
faster talks will meet Russia's interests as well, as the Russian oil
company Lukoil recently discovered a large field of hydrocarbons,
Khvalynskoye, in the north of the Caspian Sea.
