KAZAKHSTAN TO INCREASE DEFENSE BUDGET
Kazakhstan plans to increase its defense budget from the current 0.5 percent of
GDP to 1 percent in 2001, Khabar television reported on 18
May. Meanwhile, CIS Air Defense Coordinating Committee
chairman, General Anatolii Kornukov, visited Kazakhstan to
promote the integration of the air defense systems of the two
countries, the station reported. PG
