Text of report by Kazakh Khabar TV on 30 July
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev held working meetings in his
Astana residence today.
Prime Minister Daniyal Akhmetov delivered a report on the half-year
results and the current state of the country's economy. They discussed
upgrading railways, the pace of liberalization of the telecommunications
system and the stages of setting up the retail electricity market. The
president and the prime minister also discussed further developing
agriculture, improving the wellbeing of pensioners and the quality of
the construction work being carried out in Astana.
[Prime Minister Daniyal Akhmetov] Undoubtedly, the president was
interested in issues relating to the state of the oil and gas sector and
what infrastructure facilities the government is preparing in order to
improve the efficiency of oil-related operations. There was talk about
the need for Kazakhstan to seriously tackle problems concerning the
[Caspian] sea and air infrastructure of oil operations and a number of
infrastructure projects to speed up oil operations in the Caspian shelf.
The president and I also touched upon issues relating to developing the
processing industry, specifically, speeding up the building of the gas
facility at the third stage at the Karachaganak deposit [in western
Kazakhstan]. We also discussed problems concerning the development of
enterprises.
