/14:28 31.07.2003/ Talks between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on delimitation of the Caspian Sea to resume soon, Azeri official hopes

Ashkhabad, July 31, 2003. (CNA). Talks between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on delimitation of the Caspian Sea would resume soon, the Azeri Deputy Foreign Minister and National Representative in the special working group on defining the Caspian Sea legal status Khalaf Khalafov expressed hope.
"The date of resumption of Turkmen-Azeri talks depends, first of all, on Kazakh-Turkmen talks being held these days.
It worth mentioning that bilateral talks were terminated some two years ago due to the disagreement between Ashgabat and Baku over methods of defining the Caspian Sea medium line.

/14:20 31.07.2003/ Presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia had phone conversation discussing further development of bilateral economic and political relations

Astana, July 31, 2003. (CNA). The Presidents of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation and discussed issues on further development of bilateral economic and political relations.
They touched upon the paces of works within the framework of Kazakhstan's Year in Russia that became the important step in the development of fraternal relations between people of both countries.
Activity of top level group on establishing common economic zone of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and the Ukraine was as well discussed. The Presidents noted the positive results of Group's work during the last meeting in Moscow in July 25, and they consider that the forthcoming meeting of August 15 will be the final stage before the signing of the Agreement of founding common economic zone by the leaders of four countries. It is expected that the ceremony will take place in September in Yalta, during the CIS countries summit. Nursultan Nazarbayev and Vladimir Putin discussed the negotiation processes concerning separation of the Caspian Sea and the possibility of the next meeting of leaders of Caspian states, other problems of international policy, and the Russian President s forthcoming January visit to Kazakhstan, Kabar reports.

/13:55 31.07.2003/ Armenian International Airlines joins International Association of Air Transport (IATA)

Yerevan, July 31, 2003. (CNA). The Armenian International Airlines (AIA) one of two commercial carriers of Armenia, said Tuesday that AIA has joined the International Association of Air Transport (IATA). Joining to this organization will allow AIA to conclude directly agreements with other carriers and mean that AIA is recognized by other carriers as a company that corresponds to international standards.
IATA is founded in 1919. It brings together approximately 280 airlines, including the world's largest. Flights by these airlines comprise more than 95 percent of all international scheduled air traffic. IATA simplifies the travel and shipping process for consumers. By helping to control airline costs, IATA contributes to cheaper tickets and shipping costs.

/13:41 31.07.2003/ Turkmenistan is building the largest Mosque in Central Asia

Ashgabat, July 31, 2003. (CNA). Turkmenistan is building a grand mosque in Kypchak, the ancestral village of President Niyazov. With enough space for 7000 male and 3000 female worshippers, it will be the biggest mosque of the Central Asia, Kabar reports. The 3-storey building will have a 55 meters high dome and 87.5 meters high towers. The underground parking will be large enough for 100 buses and 400 cars.
White marble is being used throughout the construction of the building. French construction company Bouygyes is executing the project. Total cost of the mosque complex is said to be US $ 100 million.
The project will be completed in 2004.

/13:25 31.07.2003/ Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev had a number workign meetings with top officials of the state

Astana, 31 July, 2003. (CNA). The further development of agricultural sector, increase of level of social protection of pensioners and Astana construction was discussed at the working meeting between the President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Prime Minister Danial Akhmetov. Kabar reports that prime Minister reported about the results of 6 months work and about the state of country's economy. They spoke about the re-configuration of the railway, liberalizations speed of telecommunications systems and about stages of founding retail market of electric energy.
The Kazakhstani President and the chairman of the National Bank, Grigory Marchenko discussed positive changes in the financial sector. They noted the consolidation of national currency and reduce of inflation. The head of the National Bank reported about the preparation for the international conference, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of tenge.

/13:19 31.07.2003/ Czech envoys to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan repaced

Tashkent, July 31. 2003. (CNA). President Vaclav Klaus today dismissed ambassador Jaroslav Ludva from his function, who had been the Czech Republic´s diplomatic representative for Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, the Prague Castle website announced, without further details.
At the same time, he appointed Martin Klepetko and Milan Sedlacek the Czech ambassadors to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, respectively, Uzreport informs.
According to deputy foreign minister Rudolf Jindrak, Ludva was dismissed because he had been serving abroad for many years.
"This is a standard dismissal. He had been abroad for a solid seven years. Before this, he was in Singapore," Jindrak told CTK.
Because of the time difference, CTK was unable to contact Ludva for his reaction. Ludva has been serving in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent since October 2000.
Klepetko was nominated by Klaus from the presidential summer residence in Lany, central Bohemia, where he is recovering from a recent illness. In addition to his position in Kazakhstan, he is expected as well to serve as charge d´affaires in Iraq.
