Here's some information related to the forthcoming elections in Kyrgyzstan
A local administration officer has been fired on grounds of his meeting with
an opposition leader.
Yesterday head of the Baitik village administration in the Chu oblast Mr.
Sabyrbek Momunkulov was dismissed from his position. According to the
information obtained from "Ar-Namys" opposition party Mr. Momunkulov was
punished for the organization of the meeting between people of the village
and the opposition candidate for presidency Mr. Omurbek Tekebaev. Deputy
Head of Mr. Momunkulov Mr. Toktobek Shopiev confirmed this information
today.
Daniyar Usenov, leader of "El" (People's) party is tried anew.
New hearings started in the Oktyabrski district court of Bishkek today on
allegations against a famous businessman Mr. Daniyar Usenov. The judge Ms.
Gulnara Duishenbekova chairs hearings. The plaintiff is Turdakun Usubaliev,
a Member of Parliament who was Head of communist Kyrgyzstan between 1961 and
1985. He accuses Mr. Usenov of humiliation of his honour and dignity and
requires that moral damage incurred to him be compensated by 60 mln. soms
(nearly 1.25 mln. USD). In his interview to the "Pyramid" TV channel
broadcasted in March this year Mr. Usenov referring to the decision made in
1985 by Plenum of Central Committee of Communist Party of the USSR called
Turdakun Usubaliev to be an old intrigue maker and a tribalist. Later Mr.
Usenov asked Mr. Usubaliev for apologies but the latter never forgave him.
Mr. Usenov used to be a Member of Parliament from 1995 to 2000 and also ran
for the new Parliament. He collected majority of votes during the first tour
in February but before the second tour he was convicted and debarred from
participation in elections. After the elections the court on the same case
acquitted him although results of elections were not altered. Later Usenov
was convicted to a suspended sentence having been accused of assault of
another businessman and was debarred from presidential elections.
Now there is another trial taking place in Bishkek, which was initiated by
Usubaliev who is accusing "Asaba" opposition newspaper of constant
humiliation of his honour and dignity for the recent 8 years and demands a
compensation of 50 million soms (nearly 1mln. USD).
