KYRGYZSTAN SUPPORTS REFERENDUM IN IRAQ

Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Askar Aitmatov told Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi during a visit to Tehran that Kyrgyzstan supports an Iranian initiative to hold a referendum in Iraq under UN auspices to determine the future government of that country, akipress.org reported on 10 March. The two ministers also signed a document on developing bilateral cooperation. During a joint press conference in Bishkek with visiting Slovak President Rudolf Schuster on 4 March, President Askar Akaev stated that any military operation against Iraq must be sanctioned by the United Nations.
