First Internet cafe opened in Tajikistan

Text of report by the Tajik news agency Khovar on 19th June

The first Internet cafe in the [Tajik] republic has been opened in Dushanbe.
Six computers are located in a spacious and cosy room and linked up to the
world Internet network which makes it possible to contact any country in
the world, find the necessary information and interested partners and be in
correspondence with them. In addition to providing services, the Internet
cafe will organize short courses on Internet literacy for all those
interested.

A Khovar news agency correspondent learned from Shavkat Khalil, the director
of the Telecom Technology company which has opened the cafe, that the aim
of the innovation was to considerably expand the number of Internet users
and ease access to world information for those who cannot afford to buy a
computer and for them to enjoy a permanent link-up to the global computer
network.

The head of Telecom Technology said that similar Internet cafes would be
opened in the republic's Regional centres soon.
