TAJIK INSURGENCY PARTICIPANTS SENTENCED. Tajikistan's Supreme
Court on 24 October handed down the death sentence to four
men accused of taking part in the November 1998 uprising led
by Colonel Mahmud Khudoiberdiev, ITAR-TASS reported Another
59 men received prison terms of between eight and 15 years,
according to dpa. More than 100 people were killed in the
course of the uprising in Leninabad Oblast (see "RFE/RL
