IMF APPROVES LOAN TO TAJIKISTAN
The IMF on 25 October provisionally approved a $51 million loan to Tajikistan under
the fund's Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility, Reuters
reported. An IMF official commented that macro-economic
developments during the first six months of this year, in
particular continued GDP growth, were "favorable, despite the
difficult external environment." In Dushanbe, Economy
Minister Yahyo Azimov said on 23 October that industrial
production during the first nine months of the year increased
by 10 percent and agricultural output by 19 percent, Asia
Plus-Blitz reported on 25 October. It is unclear how that
latter figure was achieved in conditions of severe drought.
