TURKIC SUMMIT CALLS FOR COOPERATION ON OIL, CRIME
The leaders of six Turkic-language countries--including the presidents of Turkey,
Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan as well as the parliamentary speakers of
Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan--met in Baku on 8 April for their annual
summit, ITAR-TASS reported. They agreed to work more closely to export raw
materials, particularly oil, and to fight crime and international
terrorism. Azerbaijani President Aliev said that this sixth Turkic summit
(the first was in 1992) will help boost trade, economic, and cultural ties
among the six. PG
