KAZAKHSTAN DENIES UZBEK SMUGGLING CHARGES
Kazakhstan's ambassador to Tashkent, Umurzak Uzbekov, told journalists in
Tashkent on 7 April that Uzbek allegations that a truck that
entered Uzbekistan from Kazakhstan on 30 March was carrying a
radio-active cargo are groundless, Reuters and ITAR-TASS
reported. Uzbek officials had said that the truck was
carrying 10 containers of a radioactive substance. Uzbekov said that the
lorry was bearing scrap metal, part of which had been
contaminated by radioactivity. LF
