KHRISTENKO ADVOCATES SINGLE INVESTMENT SYSTEM IN EURASIA

ALMATY. April 27 (Interfax) - "Conditions for the creation of a
single investment system must be created and stimulated in Eurasia,"
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Khristenko said at a Eurasian
economic summit in Almaty on Thursday.
He said that investment cooperation within the framework of the
Commonwealth of Independent States, also actively involving the Eurasian
states, will strengthen stability and promote the economic development
of those countries.
Projects that have to do with the development of the infrastructure
figure prominently in the investment policy, he said, noting that the
project for the creation of a single Eurasian transport system might
include the laying of a northern corridor of the Trans-Asian railway
running from China to Germany through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and
Poland.
This project is expected to arouse the greatest interest in Japan,
Khristenko said. He also said that the implementation of this project
will help shorten the transportation of Japanese cargo by two times
compared with the sea routes.
Another possible worthy project is the creation of a network of
marginal and latitudinal South-West-North transport corridors that would
be linked to the Iranian railways, creating a direct communication line
for the countries of Western and Northern Europe, Russia and the Central
Asian states.
The implementation of such a project might increase cargo and
passenger freightage and increase the pace of cargo transportation from
Europe to the Indian Ocean, Khristenko said.
