KCHR Report On Insurgent Situation

Getting of information on military actions in Batken region of Kyrgyzstan is
not possible for media since Kyrgyz authorities announced that would be not
accessible. But the information coming from the official sources are rather
contradictory, including on the number of killed.

The Kyrgyz Committee for Human Rights has been reported that inhabitants of
Fergana valley offended by the rule of President I.Karimov repressing
opposition, religious figures and movements, were ready to support
invaders-militants or representative of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan.
Thus, in any case Kyrgyz citizens now also suffer from the intolerant
policies of Uzbek authorities towards religious organizations,
non-willingness to settle the issues peacefully, via negotiation and
political means.
Thus, Kyrgyz authorities are sacrificing young kyrgyz boys now.
Below are the news as given by Azattyk (Kyrgyz branch of Radio Liberty) on
August 15, 2000
