TAJIK PRESIDENT BEGINS VACATION, UZBEK PRESIDENT TO STAY
HOME. Tajikistan's President Imomali Rakhmonov is currently
on a short vacation in Sochi, where he met with Russian
President Vladimir Putin on 16 August, Asia Plus-Blitz
reported. Meanwhile, a spokesman for Uzbek President Karimov
told ITAR-TASS on 15 August that owing to the worsening
situation on the Uzbek-Tajik border, Karimov will not attend
the informal 18-19 August CIS summit in Yalta. LF
