Afghan Taleban deny presence of Uzbek rebels' camps on their territory

Text of report by Iranian radio from Mashhad on 21st August

[Presenter] At a news conference with journalists yesterday the Taleban
political envoy to Pakistan denied the presence of bases of Uzbek Islamic
extremists on the territory of Afghanistan. Here is a report by our
correspondent in Islamabad, Mr Razawi.

[Razawi] The Taleban political envoy to Pakistan, [Mowlawi Sayd] Mohammad
Haqqani, has denied the presence of Uzbek rebel bases on the territory of
Afghanistan.

Describing as groundless the report that there were 1,000 Uzbek rebels in
Afghanistan ready to launch attacks on Uzbekistan, Haqqani told journalists
in Islamabad that there were no Uzbek bases [word indistinct] in the areas
under Taleban control in Afghanistan.

The Taleban political representative in Pakistan added that the Taleban did
not wish to interfere in others' internal affairs and that they were ready
to clear up every misunderstanding which had arisen between others by means
of talks.
