ECONOMY EXPANDING THROUGHOUT THE CIS
MOSCOW. Oct. 3 (Interfax) - Economic growth, reflected in the
increase of real GDP indicators, was registered throughout the CIS this
year, the CIS interstate statistics committee reported Tuesday.
The biggest year-on-year growth for January-August 2000 was reached
in Tajikistan (9.6%) and Azerbaijan. GDP rose 6.3% in Kyrgyzstan, 5.3%
in Ukraine, 4% in Belarus and 3.1% in Armenia. In Russia production and
services output for the five basic industries rose 8.8%.
In the first half of 2000, GDP went up 2.8% in Georgia, 10.5% in
Kazakhstan, 1.7% in Moldova and 3.8% in Uzbekistan.
Industrial output for January-August was up in all CIS countries.
The biggest growth was noted in Kazakhstan (up 15.6% year-on-year),
Ukraine (12%) and Russia (10%). Production rose 9.5% in Tajikistan, 8.8%
in Georgia, 8.4% in Kyrgyzstan, 7.8% in Belarus, 6.3% in Uzbekistan,
5.2% in Azerbaijan, 4.6% in Moldova and 3.5% in Armenia.
The data does not include Turkmenistan, which does not offer
information to the CIS statistics committee.
Inflation was up in 5.9% August from July in Tajikistan and 3.6% in
Belarus. Inflation was 1.2% in Georgia, 1% in Russia, 0.8% in Moldova
and 0.2% in Kazakhstan. Consumer prices remained unchanged in Ukraine
and were down 0.2% in Azerbaijan and 1.3% in Armenia.
