TWO ALLIANCES NO THREAT TO CIS - PUTIN

SOCHI. Oct 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The two alliances currently
existing within the Commonwealth of Independent States pose no threat to
the CIS, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday.
"I don't think anything threatens the CIS in the form in which it
exists," Putin said in Sochi.
The president was responding to a question from Interfax as to
whether the recently created Eurasian Economic Cooperation and GUUAM, an
informal alliance of Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and
Moldova that is to be formalized, posed any threat to the Commonwealth.
Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma said Putin's words needed no
"other comments."
