Tajik top border guard warns Uzbeks against planting mines on border
Excerpts from report by Tajik radio on 2nd November
A meeting of the Council of the Border Troops of the CIS member-countries
took place in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, recently.

The head of the State Border Protection Committee under the government of
Tajikistan, Saidanvar Kamolov, had a meeting with senior officials from the
Uzbek Border Troops within the framework of the meeting.
Issues relating to the planting of mines by Uzbek border guards on the
Tajik-Uzbek border, which have killed many local people, were discussed
during the meeting.
Saidanvar Kamolov noted, in connection with this, that the Uzbek border
guards' action was a violation of the Geneva convention [as heard].
The Uzbek side promised that they would take precise measure to jointly
resolve the problems that had emerged.
