Afghan Taleban, Uzbek envoys hold new meeting in Pakistan - agency

Peshawar: The Afghan [Taleban] ambassador to Islamabad [Pakistan] met some
diplomats today.

The Afghan ambassador, Mola Abdol Salam Zaif, met his Uzbek and Sri Lankan
counterparts in Islamabad today.

The Afghan ambassador did not give any details of his meetings but reliable
sources told Afghan Islamic Press that at the meeting with the Uzbek
ambassador they had talked about strengthening ties between Afghanistan and
Uzbekistan and reopening the Hayraton border [checkpoint].

Today Mola Zaif also met the former [Pakistani] army chief, retired Gen
Mirza Aslam Beg.

The Afghan ambassador said that they had discussed restoration of roads in
Afghanistan. He told Afghan Islamic Press that further talks will be held
on the subject soon.

During the meetings in Islamabad the military fronts were calm. No fighting
has been reported until now.

Some sources told Afghan Islamic Press that some exchange of fire had taken
place between the two conflicting sides southeast of Taloqan [the capital
of northeastern Takhar Province] and the Farkhar gorge. According to the
same sources, the warring sides have made preparations for slaughter.

Fierce clashes might take place in Takhar in the next few days.
