Talks between Kazakh, Pakistani leaders focus on Afghanistan

     ASTANA. Nov 6 (Interfax-Kazakhstan) - During Monday evening talks
in Astana, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Pakistani Chief
Executive Lt. Gen. Pervez Musharraf mainly addressed forms of
cooperation in foreign policy matters, Nazarbayev's press service has
told Interfax.
     Nazarbayev expressed Kazakhstan's readiness to establish contacts
and meet for talks with representatives from all Afghan movements and
groups, including the Taliban, the press service said. In turn,
Musharraf "praised the Astana's balanced and constructive approach and
its readiness to promote a settlement in Afghanistan, strengthen
stability and security in the region," the service said.
     The two sides agreed that Kazakhstan and Pakistan lie in along the
route of large movements of illegal drugs and supported the idea of
forming a "security belt" along the borders of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan,
Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
