NATO CONCERNED ABOUT SECURITY IN CENTRAL ASIA
BISHKEK. Nov 16 (Interfax) - NATO is concerned about security in
Central Asia, Director of the coordinating group for the alliance's
Partnership for Peace Program Boleslav Izidorchuk told Interfax in
Bishkek on Thursday.
Izidorchuk is taking part in a two-day seminar on security and
stability in Central Asia being held under the Partnership for Peace
Program.
Developments in the countries of Central Asia over the past few
years are significant to many countries around the world, Izidorchuk
said. Therefore, the delegates to the seminar are discussing regional
security and cooperation, as well as the situation in Afghanistan.
Kyrgyzstan is indeed prepared to work with NATO, as in the past two
years it has been invaded by international extremists backed up by
transnational forces interested in the illegal smuggling of drugs and
firearms, Kyrgyz Security Council Secretary Bolot Dzhanuzakov has told
Interfax. "We must now pool [our efforts] to eradicate terrorism," he
said.
