EurasiaNet.org received the following letter from the European External Action Service, the European Union's diplomatic corps, in response to a December 18, 2012 letter to the editor from Azerbaijani writer and dissident Emin Milli and British-Azerbaijani political activist Murad Gassanly.

Despite highly controversial and disputed 2009 amendments to Azerbaijan’s Constitution that ostensibly removed term limits on the president, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s eligibility to run in the 2013 presidential election remains dubious.

To the Editor: Joshua Kucera’s May 13 dispatch, “Kazakhstan: Washington Experts Go on Spin Cycle,” is misleading and unfair. The whole idea of organizing a panel discussion in Washington, D.C., was to allow serious people to examine Kazakhstan in a serious way.
