On August 21, Turkmenistan’s Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs launched a new political party, ending the single-party system which to date has ruled the country that had been distinguished as the only post-Soviet state with only one political party.
“MTS-Turkmenistan” to Offer Services to New Customers After September 30
Starting on August 30, MTS-Turkmenistan will provide cellular services on the basis of previously signed contracts to subscribers, who can activate their SIM card from that date until September 30. New customers may enroll after September 30.
On August 10 (August 11, according to other sources) laborers working on the construction of a bridge across the Amu Darya River in Turkmenistan’s Atamurat district, went on strike, protesting that they hadn’t been paid for three months.
Regional UNHCR Representative Arrives in Ashgabat
The Turkmen Parliament held a meeting with the Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (UNHCR) in Central Asia, Saber Azam, to discuss increased cooperation given Turkmenistan’s public policies in the humanitarian sphere, the Turkmen government reported, according to the trend.az website.
